in memory of

listening to NPR today a woman called in to remember The Can Man in her town who collected all the cans people left out for him.  he apparently died and she wanted to have him remembered.

this reminded me of The Guy Who Lived In The Park in pacific palisades in the 80s.  i’d see him walking up and down temescal canyon road on my way home.  he shied away from people and was discreet about where he lived in the bushes in the park.  he was a tall young man who walked with dignity and thought himself invisible, but i often wondered who he was.  i felt sadness when i heard he died.  we lost a piece of our history.
